Finland’s world-leading higher education system offers English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in 13 universities and 23 universities of applied sciences. Finnish higher education institutions offer over 400 different study programmes and have over 20 000 international students studying in several locations around Finland.

All universities and universities of applied sciences have scholarship opportunities for international students.

Quality

Finland routinely ranks at the top of global education system. Students are challenged in the school environment and individuality amongst students is encouraged. This helps one develop essential skills for the future and gives room for independence. Amongst top 4 English speaking countries, approximately 70% people speak fluently. Unlike many other countries that measure students as a young age, there is no national evaluation during basic education.

Opportunity for Research, Teaching and Training

As a student you are given the chance to extend your permit up to a year if you would look for opportunities of employment in Finland after graduation. Upon finding employment, you can then apply for a new residence permit. You can further extend your stay by applying for a permanent resident visa once employed, expanding your prospect of finding jobs in your field. The basis for Extending student permit after studies is not industry-specific, students who have completed their studies can extend their permit in any industry. A 4-year resident permit is issued to students upon graduation.

Intakes

Majority of the Institutions start studies in August/September.

A few have intakes beginning in January. Application period for the August start date is during January. From 9th to 24th. For January start dates, application period is between August and September. Interested students can always check with us for specific information.

Some higher education institutes hold their own supplementary application rounds if all autumn rounds are not filled.

Employment

The residence permit for studies enables you to work without restrictions if your work is related to your degree. This means practical training and thesis work. You also have a right to have other jobs but the following restrictions apply:

• You may only work for an average of 25 hours per week during the academic terms.

o The number of working hours is not restricted on a weekly level. This means that you can adjust your weekly working hours during the academic term, as long as you work for 25 hours a week on average.

• You can work without restrictions at the times when your educational institution offers no instruction.
